TO: All MEPZCEM Chamber Locators and Member Companies
Dear Valued MEPZCEM Members,
Please be advised that volcanic ash and fine dust have been noticed within our industrial zones and surrounding areas in Cebu. This environmental hazard is associated with the moderately explosive eruption of Kanlaon Volcano earlier this morning, with prevailing wind conditions carrying the ash plume across the channel toward Cebu Island.
In the interest of health, safety, and business continuity, MEPZCEM strongly encourages all locator management teams to implement necessary safety measures to protect employees, equipment, and facilities.
For your reference and continuous monitoring, please see the official media updates:
- Cebu Daily News / Inquirer: Kanlaon Ashfall Reaches Cebu
- Inquirer.net: Kanlaon Volcano Sees Moderately Explosive Eruption
Recommended Precautions for Manufacturing and Industrial Facilities:
- Personnel Protection: Minimize outdoor exposure and mandate the wearing of face masks (preferably N95 or surgical masks) for employees working outdoors, in open-air logistics bays, or in dusty conditions.
- Facility Integrity: Keep all warehouse doors, office windows, and production area entry points closed wherever practical to reduce indoor dust accumulation.
- Asset Protection: Ensure sensitive electronic equipment, cleanrooms, HVAC intake filters, and raw materials are properly covered or protected from particulate intrusion.
- Logistics Safety: Exercise extreme caution for company shuttles and delivery trucks driving through areas where visibility may be actively compromised by drifting ash.
We remain actively engaged with local authorities and zone administrators to ensure our community has the most accurate information. We will closely monitor the situation and issue timely updates to the general membership as new developments or official directives arise.
Thank you for your proactive cooperation. Please prioritize safety and stay secure.
Sincerely,
MEPZCEM CHAMBER, INC.
